DRAFT DEFINITION
Multiphoton ionization
---
It occurs when an atom or a molecule and their concomitant ions have energy states whereby the energy in two or more photons is absorbed. The term resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization refers a process by means of which the ionization cross section is significantly enhanced when the wavelength of the incident photons is tuned to an intermediate excited state of the neutral species.
Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission
