ASMS Terms and Definitions Poster Entry

Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) - Two-stage mass analysis experiment, used to study the chemistry of selected ions or individual components in mixtures. Note from a reader:?????????????? I despise "MS/MS spectra" -- Who has ever heard of an MS spectrum (a mass spectrometry spectrum). Prefer "tandem mass spectrum" or better "product-ion spectrum" or "precursor-ion spectrum".?????????????? How do you handle a "metastable-ion spectrum"--please don't sanction a "metastable spectrum".

from John Langley

Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (MS/MS)

A generic term for the acquisition, study and spectra of the electrically charged products or precursors of a pre-selected ion or ions.

Mass Spectrometry-Mass Spectrometry (MS-MS) See MS/MS.

NOTE: Do we want to make a decision on / or ?????????????????????????? to determine technique and spectra?
