Collision gas
From Mass Spec Terms
DRAFT DEFINITION |
Collision gas |
---|
Gas-phase inert neutral species that are introduced in a mass spectrometer to increase an ion's internal energy via an ion/neutral species process, e.g. collision-induced dissociation. The synonym 'target gas' is not recommended. If the ion/neutral species process is aimed at relaxation of ion's internal and/or translational energy, the term buffer gas should be used. |
Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission |
