Precursor ion
DRAFT DEFINITION
An ion that reacts to form particular product ions. The reaction can be unimolecular dissociation, ion/molecule reaction, isomerization, or change in charge state. The term parent ion is not recommended.
Considered between 2004 and 2006 but not included in the 2006 PAC submission

Synonymous with Parent Ion. Instead of the use of parent ion and daughter ion terms the precursor and product ion terms are preferred respectively.
