From p. 317 of "Building Scientific Apparatus" 2nd ed:
- "Space-charge effect arises from the mutual repulsion of particles of like charge" and "places a limit on the furrent in a charged-particle beam" and "the beam will diverge away from the image more rapidly than predicted by geometric optics."
