Fragmentation of an | Fragmentation of an ion or molecule in which the electrons forming the single bond that is broken are shared between the two atoms that were originally bonded. For an odd electron ion, fragmentation results from one of a pair of electrons that form a bond between two atoms moving to form a pair with the odd electron on the atom at the apparent charge site. Fragmentation results in the formation of an even electron ion and a radical. This reaction involves the movement of a single electron and is represented by a single-barbed arrow. | ||
